Wedding 101

The ultimate Wedding Stationery guide

Planing a wedding can be overwhelming. While some of us grew up dreaming of our perfect wedding, the rest of us may have no idea what the difference between a wedding shower and a bridal shower is. We hope to answer at least some of your questions here, while also explaining how BombPop Design operates.

OUr design process

Our design process begins 8-10 months before your big day. We start with Pinterest, where we work together to create a vision board. We will use this collection as inspiration for everything.

It takes us up to two months to design, print, and send each stationery to you. So be sure to give us some time to make your prints perfect. In that time we will send you a free proof that will require your approval before we begin printing.

We give our couples a round of revisions before we print. If there are any more revisions after that round, we may push the print date and/or add a fee.

For our local couples, we'd love to meet up to celebrate your completed invitations over a glass of wine. For our non-local couples, your invitations will be sent in a tidy box for you to assemble. If you'd like us to assemble them for you, just ask.

Save the dates

Save the dates are NOT invitations, but everyone who gets a save the date, should also get an invitation. These simply announce the event and tell everyone to mark their calendars.

Save the dates should be sent 6-8 months before your wedding.

The words

Finding the right words for your invitations can be hard. "Does it have to be filled with fancy words?" "My mom wants traditional cards, but what does that even mean?"

Honestly, you can put whatever you want. It's your wedding. Wording usually gets more complicated when you want to be specific about who is hosting the wedding. But here is a quick template to get you started.

Traditional: Traditionally, the wedding is hosted by the Bride's parents so they are mentioned first

Mr. and Mrs. John Doe
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter
Jane Doe
to
James Smith
son of
Mr. and Mrs. David Smith
Saturday, the twenty-fifth of June
two thousand fifteen
at six o’clock
St. James Catholic Church
Grand Rapids, Michigan

Both Parents Host: When you don't want to play favorites or both families are hosting

Mr. and Mrs. John Doe
and
Mr. and Mrs. David Smith
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of
Jane Doe
to
James Smith
Saturday, the twenty-fifth of June
two thousand fifteen
at four o’clock
St. James Catholic Church
Grand Rapids, Michigan

Both Families Host: This is a simpler approach, as it uses less copy

Together with their families
Jane Doe
and
James Smith
request the honour of your presence
at their marriage
Saturday, the twenty-fifth of June
two thousand fifteen
at four o’clock
St. James Catholic Church
Grand Rapids, Michigan

Note: Sometimes your parents what to see your full names included in the invitations. Also we've spelled "honour" with a U to be fancy, but you don't have to. You can even turn the date and time into numbers.

Still unsure of how to word yours? Just ask us, we'd be happy to help even if you're not buying anything from us.

Building your
Invitation set

We recommend you at least have an Invitation Card, Detail Card, and RSVP Card tucked neatly in an envelope.

If your RSVP card is asking your guests to respond via mail, it is expected that you include an RSVP envelope with postage. This is why many couples today are using the RSVP card to tell their guests to respond via their website.

If you only want to send and invitation card, we recommend you make it two-sided to keep it from getting to crowded.

We recommend you send your invites out 4-6 months before your wedding. Sooner if you don't send save the dates.

Thank You's

It is customary to send thank you cards within 3 months of receiving gifts or after your wedding. We find this easiest if you keep it simple. Include a picture of the new happy couple with a thank you note, then leave the back blank for a handwritten note.

Sending wedding thank you notes can be quite a daunting task to tackle, but it's so important to express your gratitude to each of the people who've made an impact on your day, no matter how large or small.

If you are planning to include menus, table tents, etc. at your celebration, we can take care of that too! Just ask.

We need 2-4 months to get these done, depending on what you need.
